2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Review
The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV was awarded the 2023 Family Green Car of the Year by Green Car Journal. Goes to show how amazing this vehicle is and I can’t wait to get into the preview of the Outlander PHEV. Let’s start with the performance of the Outlander PHEV.
Talk about a road trip with fewer stops to recharge, the Outlander PHEV has a combined range of 420 miles. When it does become time to charge and use 100% of the electric power, you can receive up to 38 miles in range at a time. That to me is very impressive! You also have low to zero-emission drive modes that deliver 64 MPGe2 for all the eco-friendly fun. Let’s talk about the PHEV system that delivers optimum driving performance with a fuel-efficient 2.4L MIVEC engine and twin electric motors that changes between 3 drive modes of EV Mode, Series Hybrid Mode, and Parallel Hybrid Mode. That does not stop with the efficiency of even more EV power. The EV Mode Selector Switch adds 4 additional modes as a driving option. Normal Mode, EV Priority Mode, Save Mode, and Charge Mode add maximum efficiency to every mile of every trip. Don’t forget the S-AWC is available for the Outlander PHEV too!
Moving along with the exterior of the Outlander PHEV, you have 4 different trim levels to choose from. ES, SE, SEL, and 40th Anniversary Edition, and not even one disappoints! I am a huge fan of a vehicle that will only come around on special times so if I had a trim level to choose from, it would be the 40th. Anniversary Edition. Preserve the milestone of this wonderful vehicle and the amazing features it can provide. The top exterior features that stand out to me are the 20-inch Two-Tone Alloy Wheels, 40th. Anniversary & PHEV Badges throughout the vehicle, power Panoramic Sunroof and the hands-free power liftgate with adjustable height. We cannot forget to mention the 64.7 cubic ft. Of cargo space to make for a very easy loading & unloading experience and the customizable seating arrangements so you can organize your passengers and cargo in many ways needed.
Lastly, Let’s look at the safety features that also make the Outlander PHEV one of the best vehicles around. Equipped with multiple standard Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) to help always safeguard every person in the vehicle for a smooth ride. Starting with Lane Departure Warning that continuously monitors the vehicle’s lane position and then provides a gentle sound and visual alert if you are unintentionally out of your lane. 2022 Mitsubishi Mirage Overview
The Mitsubishi Mirage and Mitsubishi Mirage G4 have received a few updates since their complete remodel in 2021. According to Mitsubishi News, The Mirage models are the most fuel-efficient, non-hybrid, gas-powered new car sold in America. Providing efficiency through and through, the Mirage’s three-cylinder produces the fuel economy of 36 City/43 Highway/39 Combined MPG. Producing 78 horsepower at 6,000 rpm on the 3-cylinder engine and having 74 lb.-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm. The Mirage also could come equipped with the automatic continuously variable transmission (CVT) or the 5-speed manual transmission. With their additional updates to the front and rear exterior styles to reflect the Mitsubishi design ethos, they have both become sportier and more distinctive in their look. The Mitsubishi Mirage and Mirage G4 have brought back the popular Black Edition package which includes the following:

2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Overview
The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander, has just arrived at our Baltimore, Maryland Mitsubishi dealership! This new 2022 Outlander completely skips the 2021 Outlander model year, marking the first complete redesign for the brand’s flagship SUV in 8 years. With this update, the 2022 Outlander joins the rest of the Mitsubishi lineup by adopting the brand’s signature Dynamic Shield front end design language, first established with the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. With this new 2022 iteration, the Mitsubishi Outlander continues its reign as the only compact SUV to come standard with third row seats. It also aggressively targets the price points of the competition, with the base 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander ES slotting in at $25,795 MSRP. That low cost of entry still nets plenty of standard features other manufacturers charge extra for, including Apple Carplay & Android Auto, Blind Spot Warning (BSW) with Lane Change Assist and Mitsubishi MI-PILOT safety assist technology.
The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander is the first complete Mitsubishi product to result from the Nissan-Renault-Mitsubishi Alliance. While the exterior and interior were completely developed from the ground up by Mitsubishi, the platform and engine were provided by Nissan, specifically from the Nissan Rogue. The result is an exciting new vehicle built on strong, proven bones with years of fine-tuning. Mitsubishi took the baton from Nissan when it came to handling, incorporating their trademark Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) all-wheel drive system honed from their history in the rally circuit. The suspension is tuned for almost any terrain, with S-AWC equipped Outlanders boasting 6 distinct drive modes: Eco, Normal, Tarmac, Gravel, Snow, and Mud. Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) Outlanders feature all of these minus the mud mode. Raw performance numbers haven’t been revealed yet, but we expect the Nissan-sourced 2.5L to produce around 180 horsepower and return an estimated 28 mpg combined like it does in the Rogue.
Mitsubishi cut no corners when optioning the higher trim levels of the 2022 Outlander, loading it with the finest materials and technologies the brand has to offer. All Mitsubishi Outlander SEL and Outlander SEL Touring model come upholstered in diamond quilted leather, not only luxurious but an homage to the brand’s three-diamond logo design. A massive 12.3’’ digital instrument cluster is also available, a feature once reserved for only top end Mercedes Benz less than a decade ago. While the standard Outlander ES sits on handsome 18’’ alloy wheels, every trim SE and above rides on 20” two-tone alloys. The all new, completely redesigned 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross will soon be arriving at our Baltimore, Maryland Mitsubishi dealership, complete with the latest technology the three-diamond brand has to offer. Completely skipping over the 2021 Eclipse Cross model year, this new Mitsubishi SUV has been retooled according to customer feedback on the previous generation. The styling has been massaged to feature more curvature, and the rear taillight bar has been replaced by separate taillights, improving rearward visibility. The 2022 Eclipse Cross still retains the sleek, coupe-like aesthetic that its namesake Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross provided for it, complete with the aggressive Dynamic Shield design language Mitsubishi pioneered with the 2018 Eclipse Cross. Mitsubishi says the 2022 Eclipse Cross was built under the Japanese philosophy of Kodawari or an uncompromising dedication to one’s craft. That philosophy shines through in every aspect of this premium new compact SUV.
The 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross slots in between the Outlander Sport and Outlander in the model lineup, both in terms of price and size. With a base MSRP of $23,395, the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross ES is certainly well equipped for a “base” model. Step up from the 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross ES into the higher rim levels and you’ll be rewarded with a variety of luxuries. While the ES and LE come with cloth interior, the Eclipse Cross SE features synthetic suede upholstery, while the SEL comes stitched with genuine leather. The wheels bump up from 16” alloys to 18” alloys when any trim besides the ES is selected, and they come in two styles. The 2022 Eclipse Cross LE sits on 18” black painted alloy wheels, while the Eclipse Cross SE and SEL sit on two-tone 18” alloys. LED headlights, taillights and fog lights are also standard on upper trim levels, further enhancing the premium look.

2021 Mitsubishi Mirage Overview
Both the 2021 Mitsubishi Mirage and 2021 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 have been redesigned for the 2021 model year, sporting the new Mitsubishi Dynamic Shield design language that is now uniform across the entire brand with the addition of the new 2022 Outlander. Even with new styling and standard features, the Mitsubishi still holds claim to quite the title in the United States. The 2021 Mitsubishi Mirage ES equipped with the CVT transmission instead of the standard (and fun) 5-speed manual transmission achieves the best fuel efficiency for any new gas-only powered vehicle in America. The 2021 Mitsubishi Mirage ES achieves an EPA fuel economy of 36 mpg city, 43 mpg highway for a combined 39 mpg. The Mirage G4 sacrifices 2 MPG combined for the addition of the trunk. Chalk it up to the increased weight and less aerodynamics, they both use the same 1.2L MIVEC 3 cylinder engine. The Mitsubishi Mirage also used to be the most affordable new vehicle for sale in Baltimore, but the new Chevrolet Spark slightly undercuts it in price now. What the Chevy is unable to match is the broad warranty offered by Mitsubishi, backing both the Mirage and Mirage G4 with a 10 year/100,000 mile warranty.
Both the 2021 Mitsubishi Mirage and Mirage G4 come equipped with a bounty of standard features not found in previous Mirages. Apple Carplay and Android Auto are now standard on a 7” touch screen infotainment display. There’s also a variety of the latest safety features now standard, including forward collision mitigation with pedestrian detection and active stability control. For the most part the trim are the same across body style, with the exception of the rims and the carbonate edition. The 2021 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 ES sits on steel wheels with hubcaps, while stepping up to the next trim and above nets the consumer 15” alloy wheels. The Mirage hatchback also sits on steel wheels in ES guise, while stepping up to 14’’ in the LE trim. Only the 2021 Mirage SE hatchback comes with 15” alloys like the Mirage G4. The 2021 Mirage Carbonite trim is a body effects kit with sporty red accents reserved exclusively for the hatchback body style. Also exclusive to the 2021 Mitsubishi Mirage hatchback is the sporty Sand Yellow Metallic paint option, in addition to White Diamond which is also available on the 2021 Mirage G4. Regardless of which Mirage SE you opt for, it will come equipped with LED headlights, synthetic material seating surfaces, heated front seats and a leather wrapped steering wheel. Completely updated for the new decade, the 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is the most compact SUV offering from the three-diamond brand. Mitsubishi’s new “dynamic shield” design language, first appearing on the Eclipse Cross, has now been translated to this latest iteration of the Outlander Sport. The result is a far more aggressive, angular front end, complete with standard LED daytime running lights. The rear has also been massaged, with sporty new LED taillights. Available in 8 unique colors, including the eye-catching new Sunshine Orange Metallic and Red Diamond, the 2020 Outlander Sport is meant to be noticed. Standard 18’’ alloy wheels anchor the look. Nimble enough to navigate tight Baltimore city streets, yet spacious enough to fit a weekend’s worth of camping equipment, the 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is meant to fit almost any lifestyle. Available with Mitsubishi’s All-Wheel Control System (AWC), the Outlander Sport also makes for reliable transportation in snowy Maryland winters. The 2020 Outlander Sport ES receives all of the styling updates, including the standard LED headlights and 18’’ alloy rims. On top of that, a body colored shark fin antenna, as well as color-keyed side mirrors complete the posh exterior aesthetic. Step inside, and you’ll be greeted by the standard 7’’ touch screen infotainment display, complete with rearview backup camera. Automatic climate control is also included!
SP:
Step up to the SP trim, and your Outlander Sport will be set apart from the others with an exclusive “Carbon Style” grille, as well as front and rear undercovers, a larger roof spoiler, and a “Special Edition” badge to complete the look. Inside, heated seats are standard, as well as an upgraded 8’’ infotainment display, complete with Apple Carplay and Android Auto.
SE:
The SE trim ditches the unique exterior additions of the SP trim, but retains the improved infotainment features and heated seats. On top of that, it also receives LED fog lights, automatic high beams, and keyless entry with push button start. Does Your Mitsubishi Need New Tires?
Is your Mitsubishi in need of new tires? If you’ve noticed your car’s overall ride becoming harsher, or you feel as if you lose traction more often than you’d like, it may be time to replace your rubber. Your vehicle’s tires are how it connects to the road, and their overall health makes a difference into how your car accelerates, burns fuel, and handles difficult road conditions. We hope this article can help you to not only better inspect whether you need new tires, but teach how to best preserve the lives of your current ones as well.
- Be sure to check that your tires are inflated to the manufacturer’s recommended levels. Your vehicle’s ideal tire pressure can be found either in the owner’s manual, or on the white sticker in your driver’s side door frame. A vehicle with low tire pressure requires more exertion from the engine to propel, resulting in poor fuel economy. If your vehicle’s tire pressure is too high, you risk wearing the tread down in an uneven manner, or worse, leaving yourself more vulnerable to a flat tire if they were to come into contact with a sharp piece of road debris.
- Analyze your daily commuting path and pay attention to whether or not it involves traversing poorly maintained roads. If possible, plan an alternative route to bypass these conditions.
- Be sure to get your tires rotated between every 6000 to 8000 miles. Every time you bring your vehicle to Jerry’s Mitsubishi for an oil change, we’ll rotate them for you! - Only ride on a spare tire as long as necessary. Spare tires are only meant to be used for brief periods of time, and will not last nearly as long as a regular tire. Not to mention, long term spare tire usage will result in uneven tread wear on your remaining three tires. Whenever one of your tires goes flat, be sure to repair or replace it as soon as possible!
- When replacing tires, you must do it all at once, otherwise you’ll have uneven tread wear and traction on the road.
Here are some steps you can take on your own to see if you are ready for a new set of tires:
- Your overall ride feels harsher than you recall. You feel bumps in the road more.
- Whenever it rains or snows, your vehicle slides more than usual. You’ll especially notice this when accelerating or braking.
- Your tires have uneven tread, balding edges, or visible wiring.
Your vehicle’s tire tread depth must be no shallower than 2/32 of an inch to pass a Maryland State Inspection. Instead of visiting a mechanic or spending the money on a tire depth gauge, there is a really simple method to checking your tires’ tread depth, and it will only require a penny! Examine your tire and find the area where the tread appears to be the shallowest. Stick the penny with Abe’s head first into the gap. If you can still see the top of Lincoln’s scalp, it’s time for a nice set of rubber.
