The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander, has just arrived at our Baltimore, Maryland Mitsubishi dealership! This new 2022 Outlander completely skips the 2021 Outlander model year, marking the first complete redesign for the brand’s flagship SUV in 8 years. With this update, the 2022 Outlander joins the rest of the Mitsubishi lineup by adopting the brand’s signature Dynamic Shield front end design language, first established with the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. With this new 2022 iteration, the Mitsubishi Outlander continues its reign as the only compact SUV to come standard with third row seats. It also aggressively targets the price points of the competition, with the base 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander ES slotting in at $25,795 MSRP. That low cost of entry still nets plenty of standard features other manufacturers charge extra for, including Apple Carplay & Android Auto, Blind Spot Warning (BSW) with Lane Change Assist and Mitsubishi MI-PILOT safety assist technology.
The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander is the first complete Mitsubishi product to result from the Nissan-Renault-Mitsubishi Alliance. While the exterior and interior were completely developed from the ground up by Mitsubishi, the platform and engine were provided by Nissan, specifically from the Nissan Rogue. The result is an exciting new vehicle built on strong, proven bones with years of fine-tuning. Mitsubishi took the baton from Nissan when it came to handling, incorporating their trademark Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) all-wheel drive system honed from their history in the rally circuit. The suspension is tuned for almost any terrain, with S-AWC equipped Outlanders boasting 6 distinct drive modes: Eco, Normal, Tarmac, Gravel, Snow, and Mud. Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) Outlanders feature all of these minus the mud mode. Raw performance numbers haven’t been revealed yet, but we expect the Nissan-sourced 2.5L to produce around 180 horsepower and return an estimated 28 mpg combined like it does in the Rogue.
Mitsubishi cut no corners when optioning the higher trim levels of the 2022 Outlander, loading it with the finest materials and technologies the brand has to offer. All Mitsubishi Outlander SEL and Outlander SEL Touring model come upholstered in diamond quilted leather, not only luxurious but an homage to the brand’s three-diamond logo design. A massive 12.3’’ digital instrument cluster is also available, a feature once reserved for only top end Mercedes Benz less than a decade ago. While the standard Outlander ES sits on handsome 18’’ alloy wheels, every trim SE and above rides on 20” two-tone alloys. To further compete in this heated automotive segment, Mitsubishi also offers and panoramic moonroof and three-zone climate control. No detail was spared with the 2022 Outlander, Mitsubishi even contracted Bandai-Namco to design the vehicle chimes, the same company that created video games like Pac-Man and Galaga! It’s only fitting for such a futuristic looking vehicle to have the sound effects of a space craft.
